Native speakers don’t bite: yippie!

16 02 2010

Today we had a guest lecturer at my school. An English teacher -self-described as Londoner-Irish- speaking aboout facts and fictions in British culture. He worked along with students, making them guess, compare, and share opinions. Not easy with a big crowd. Nice powerpoint presentation with bits from a BBC documentary on how children perceive their identity: religion, nationality, race?

I am so proud my Elementary level students could follow him and participate!  And the most remarkable discovery: native speakers don’t bite!

Blogus Horribilis

10 02 2010

Sort of frustrated with virtual worlds. I can’t manage to upload stuff  -I tried with a video and an audio file, I’ve toyed around with graphics. Nothing is happening. Too much: permalink? embed? To top it off , my blog and wiki do not appear in any of the course’s rosters or gatherings like OLL.

Chinatown

 My fellow bloggerians…

I’ll be using this blog in a kind of teaching journal fashion. Those things that make your day and those things that ” will bring you down to Chinatown”, as Robert de Niro says in “Meet the Parents” warning his future son-in-law to behave or else:

Robert De Niro stars as Jack Byrnes and Ben Stiller stars as Greg Focker in Universal Pictures' Little Fockers (2010)

Hilarious sound bite, wasn’t it?

TESOL Man Walking

7 02 2010

Last Friday, after a heated department meeting , a colleague forcefully asserted that his lunch time was far more important than teaching, that teaching was not life. This is how I felt as I walked to the bus stop: troubled.
